Johannesburg, South Africa — Prosus, a South African tech investor majority-owned by Naspers, is set to sell its remaining 16. 8% stake in German food delivery giant Delivery Hero to Uber in a deal valued at approximately R39 billion.
The transaction, which is expected to close by July 2026, reflects Prosus’s commitment to European regulators following its acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway. Com. Uber is offering 41 euros and 50 cents per share for Delivery Hero, valuing the company at around R236 billion.
Prosus has been progressively reducing its stake in Delivery Hero, having sold portions of its holding earlier this year. Delivery Hero, operating in over 50 markets globally, has experienced substantial growth in the food delivery sector.
The agreement with Uber is anticipated to expand the US ride — hailing company’s global food delivery network, potentially leading to increased competition and new opportunities for growth and innovation in the sector.
The sale is part of Prosus’s broader trend to divest from certain investments and refocus on other areas of technology and innovation. Industry analysts view the transaction as a strategic move for Prosus to comply with regulatory requirements and manage its investment portfolio effectively.
