Morocco: Intense Cold Wave Continues with Predicted Heavy Snowfall in High-Altitude Zones. Rabat, Morocco — City, Country — An intense cold wave continues to grip Morocco, with the General Directorate of Meteorology issuing an orange-level weather alert for several regions across the kingdom.
The alert includes warnings against heavy snowfall, heavy rain, low temperatures, and strong winds, particularly in mountainous areas.
According to local reports, snowfall ranging from 20 to 40 centimeters is forecast on Tuesday in high-altitude zones, including the northern provinces of Midelt, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, and Ifrane.
In these regions, the heavy snowfall is expected to create challenging conditions, potentially affecting transportation and daily life.
Additionally, lighter snowfall of 5 to 15 centimeters is anticipated in provinces such as Figuig, Tinghir, and Ouarzazate.
The cold wave has been affecting Morocco for several days, prompting authorities to urge populations in affected areas to remain vigilant. Last week, the Moroccan government launched the “Facing Severe Cold” initiative to provide assistance to vulnerable communities.
The operation, supervised by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, aims to benefit 73,000 households.
Authorities have stated that these households will receive food and blankets, as per official statements.
The government has not yet commented on the potential impact on infrastructure or the possibility of additional measures to support affected residents.
However, the situation remains under close monitoring, with further details expected to be released as they become available.
The General Directorate of Meteorology advises residents in high — risk areas to prepare for the cold weather and take necessary precautions.
As the cold wave persists, the Moroccan authorities are working to ensure the safety and well — being of their citizens.
