Mouila, Gabon — A nighttime fire destroyed a timber house and an adjoining goods depot at the “Carrefour des Jeunes” intersection in Divindet district late Tuesday, according to local reports.
The blaze, spotted around 20:00, burned two wooden structures that housed children and stock belonging to a foreign shop-owner named Gassama, official statements indicate. No fatalities were reported.
Residents formed bucket brigades but said the flames spread rapidly after a power outage and suspected short — circuit, a witness told the national press agency.
Limited water pressure and the absence of firefighting equipment hampered containment efforts, sources close to the matter.
The incident refocuses attention on stalled plans for a provincial fire station in Ngounié province.
Regional officials confirmed that construction of the Centre technique rural et industriel (CTRI) barracks in Mouila has been suspended, with the contract still held by local firm JAD-BETON. Further details were not immediately available.
Officials have not yet released damage estimates or opened a formal investigation.
The situation remains developing.
