In the past week, heavy rain and strong winds have battered the prefectures of Mbomou and Basse — Kotto in the eastern Central African Republic, resulting in significant damage and displacement.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), the adverse weather has affected 350 people, leading to the collapse of two schools in Rafaï, Mbomou prefecture. This has impacted internally displaced persons, refugees, and host-community members.
Additionally, around 150 individuals have been displaced in Nzelété, Basse-Kotto prefecture. Local authorities and UN OCHA are currently assessing the situation and providing support for the humanitarian response.
The forecast indicates light to moderate rain across most parts of the country for the next three days, particularly in the western and central regions.
