FRANCEVILLE, Gabon — A tragic accident involving two heavy trucks has resulted in the deaths of two drivers in the Haut-Ogooué province of southeastern Gabon.
The incident occurred on a private road belonging to the Nouvelle Gabon Mining company in Franceville, the province’s capital. Initial reports suggest a head-on collision between the trucks, which were traveling in opposite directions. Both drivers, Jourdain Mapaga, 51, of Congolese origin, and Xianxing, 39, a Chinese national, were found dead at the scene.
The Mbaya gendarmerie brigade has initiated an investigation, with excessive speed being a potential contributing factor.
The bodies have been transferred to a funeral home in Franceville, where the incident has deeply affected the company’s workforce.
The accident has also sparked renewed discussion on the importance of adhering to road safety regulations on industrial routes.
