Kisumu, Kenya — The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has successfully concluded its national elections at the Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu. In a process marked by a significant degree of consensus, Secretary General Collins Henry Oyuu and his Deputy Hesbon Otieno, along with several other key officials, were elected unopposed. The national polls drew delegates from across the country, reflecting a broad agreement among members on key leadership roles.
The election saw ten top officials, including Patrick Karinga (National Chairman), Malel Langat (First Vice National Chairman), and Aggrey Namisi (Second Vice National Chairman), secure their positions without competition. Other officials like James Ndiku (National Treasurer) and Kennedy Nyamwanda (Deputy National Treasurer) were also elected unopposed.
The National Women Representatives’positions were filled by Mercy Kambati and Mercy Ndungu, both elected unopposed. In the senior leadership, Oyuu and Otieno were confirmed in their respective roles.
Out of the eleven national positions, only the Assistant Secretary General seat remains contested. The high turnout of KNUT members, who lined up early in the morning, contributed to a calm and orderly election process. Security was tightened at the college to ensure law and order during the event.
As the voting progresses, the focus now turns to the final outcome of the Assistant Secretary General position, which is expected to complete KNUT’s national leadership structure.
