Moanda Transporters Urged to Pay Annual Taxes by May 12th to Secure Participation in Vignette Launch. MOANDA, Gabon – The Mayor of Moanda commune in the Haut-Ogooué province (Southeast), Estimé Pédox Lebomo, has called on urban transporters to settle their annual taxes by May 12th, 2026, in a bid to ensure their eligibility for the upcoming sticker placement ceremony. During a meeting on Tuesday, Mayor Lebomo, accompanied by his deputies Dieudonné Ngossinga, Jean Daniel Awangui, and Marcelin Boungondza, addressed taxi drivers and mixed transport (TM) operators, emphasizing the mandatory payment of their taxes to the local Treasury.
The Mayor highlighted that failure to comply would bar operators from participating in the launch of the vignette operation, scheduled for May 12th.
Furthermore, he announced that any non — compliant vehicles would be immediately immobilized starting May 13th, a move aimed at ending the anarchy in the transport sector. Representative Obaka Ngari Bervelly, from the Haut-Ogooué Land Transport Workers Union (SYTTHO), expressed satisfaction with the dialogue, particularly regarding the fight against unfair competition from unlicensed transporters.
The Mayor assured the union that he would put an end to the phenomenon of clandestine transporters who evade taxes.
The impetus for the Mayor’s directive follows ongoing discussions between the city council and the Ministry of Transport over tax collection methods. Despite taxi drivers in Libreville voicing their discontent over perceived double taxation, the specifics of the dispute and the outcomes of recent protests remain unconfirmed. Impulsradio Africa will continue to monitor the situation and provide further details as they emerge.
