Libreville, Gabon — The Gabonese Ministry of Health has celebrated the African Vaccination Week (AVW) with a commendation of several parents for their exemplary vaccination follow-up, at ceremonies held in health centers in Glass, Lalala, and Awendjé, according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The recipients were awarded certificates and insecticide — treated bed nets as recognition for their commitment to the health protection of their children. Dr. Jean Romain Mourou, the Deputy Director-General for Health Promotion, emphasized the importance of parental responsibility, noting, “Children continue to be exposed to preventable diseases.
That is why we have chosen to honor the parents who have chosen responsibility, those who have understood that to vaccinate is to protect. ” At the Glass health center, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pélagie Obone Nze praised the involvement of the recipients, saying, “We congratulate the distinguished parents who have understood the importance of vaccination and encourage others to follow their example.
” One of the recipients, Erika, expressed her joy and gratitude for the certificate and the nets, noting, “This kind of campaign encourages young parents to care for the health of their children. ” Through this initiative, health authorities aim to strengthen awareness of the importance of vaccination and encourage increased participation in the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI).
