LIBREVILLE, Gabon — Gabon’s Minister of National Education, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, has announced a new initiative aimed at improving the living conditions of teachers by providing them with land ownership opportunities.
The program, which was revealed during her appearance on Gabon 1ère’s “la nuit des 100 jours “program, is set to allocate 530 hectares of land to teachers, allowing them to secure plots of 500 square meters each with a land title.
The announcement comes as part of a broader strategy to address the challenges faced by Gabon’s education sector, including teacher shortages and inadequate infrastructure.
The initiative is expected to enhance the stability and well — being of teachers, thereby contributing to the overall quality of education in the country. Under the program, teachers will have the option to pay for their land either in a single cash payment of 1. 4 million FCFA or through a 24-month installment plan of approximately 67,000 FCFA per month, facilitated through partnerships with several banks.
Leclercq emphasized that the goal of the program is to enable teachers to gradually acquire property, which she believes will improve their living conditions and social stability. This move is seen as a significant step towards recognizing the value of the teaching profession in Gabon.
