MATSATSA, Gabon — On June 19, 2026, the Gabonese enterprise SNE & Services embarked on a pioneering initiative to solarize the roadways on the Pont de la Leyou–Matsatsa axis in the Ogooué-Lolo province. This project, spanning three months, is a testament to the nation’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure.
The workforce for this project is drawn from local villages along the Matsatsa district’s linear route, with a focus on the solarization of road shoulders and canal cleaning.
The provincial director of Public Works for Ogooué-Lolo, Étienne Nziengui, and the general manager of SNE & Services, Auphélie Ngoungourou, were present at the launch. Reflecting on the year prior, Ngoungourou expressed gratitude to President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Minister of Public Works, Edgard Moukoumbi, for the trust placed in the company, which has now been awarded a second lot of 23 kilometers, following the successful completion of the initial 23 kilometers in 2025.
The government’s investment in this project, totaling 1,333 billion FCFA over three years, is part of a broader plan to enhance economic development through improved connectivity. Despite the ambitious plans, there are concerns about the operational effectiveness of the Fonds Autonome National d’Entretien et d’Investissement Routier (FANEIR), established to ensure the proper maintenance and investment in the road network.
As the nation watches, the success of this innovative approach to road maintenance and sustainability will be a critical factor in the government’s broader infrastructure development goals.
