In the Central and Southern Provinces of Mozambique, the Year 2026 Has Been Marked by a Severe Humanitarian Crisis.
The overlapping impacts of climate — related shocks and armed conflict have significantly affected the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. Floods have displaced large numbers of people, damaged health infrastructure, and increased the risk of waterborne disease outbreaks, thereby disrupting the continuity of essential health services. Simultaneously, the insecurity in Cabo Delgado province has exacerbated the situation, driving further displacement and placing additional strain on the already fragile health systems.
Despite the high humanitarian needs, the focus remains on providing primary health care, emergency services, mental health support, and assistance to both displaced populations and host communities.
The Health Cluster partners have been actively engaged in a coordinated response to ensure the delivery of essential health services. Their efforts include mobile clinics, outbreak response, sexual and reproductive health services, and water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions.
However, the challenges are substantial, with access to care, resource availability, and the need to strengthen monitoring and reporting mechanisms identified as critical areas requiring improvement.
The May 2026 bulletin offers an overview of the activities and achievements of Health Cluster partners, emphasizing the collective efforts to address urgent needs and support the recovery of affected communities in the conflict-affected northern region and the flood-affected southern region.
