Gabon’s Digital Transformation: Strengthening Public Sector Capabilities through Training Workshops BODY: LIBREVILLE, Gabon – In a significant move towards modernizing public administration, the Gabonese government, under the coordination of the General Secretariat of the Government, has initiated workshops aimed at enhancing institutional capacities. These workshops, part of the Gabon Digital program, commenced on Saturday in Nkok, Ntoum commune, with the goal of preparing for the progressive integration of public services into the Government Services Portal (PGS), according to the Gabonese Press Agency. Maryse Lydie Madiba Iloumbou, the Deputy Director-General of the National Agency for Digital Infrastructure and Frequencies (ANINF) and the General Coordinator of the Gabon Digital program, highlighted the importance of these workshops in the modernization of public administration.
She emphasized the aim to strengthen the capacities of public administrations to identify, describe, map, and prepare priority public services for integration onto the PGS.
The Coordinator for the PGS and the Government Digitalization (GED) program, Issoufou Donagnon Soro, explained that the PGS is a platform intended to eventually gather all digitalized public services of the Gabonese administration. He noted that this phase of capacity building follows several preparatory sessions with sectoral public administrations.
The first phase involves five ministries: Interior, Justice, Mines, Economy, and Agriculture, each tasked with proposing ten services for integration into a catalog. Two priority services will be selected for direct publication in the portal in a pilot phase scheduled for September.
The workshops will run by ministry from July to August, followed by a consolidation phase. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to digitize public services in Gabon, aiming to improve efficiency and accessibility.
The government’s commitment to digital transformation is evident in initiatives like the ENA’s capacity-building caravan and the establishment of a national sovereign Data Center in the Special Economic Zone of Nkok, near Libreville. These steps are crucial for enhancing local data hosting capabilities and supporting a digital economy focused on innovation.
As Gabon continues to embrace digital transformation, the outcomes of these workshops and subsequent integration into the PGS will be crucial in shaping the future of public service delivery and economic growth in the country.
