Lagos, Nigeria — The Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has disclosed the seizure of 184. 5 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of $28 million, en route to the UK.
The drugs were found concealed in brown boxes at a Lagos courier facility. Afolabi Kazeem Michael, known online as ‘KC Luxury,’a social media influencer with a following of nearly 700,000 on Instagram, was apprehended at Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport. Michael, who portrayed himself as a businessman dealing in gold and luxury goods, is suspected of being the Nigerian “arrowhead “of a drug trafficking network that transported cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia.
In addition to Michael, the NDLEA arrested Lawal Mujab Kehinde, a logistics company employee, on allegations of packaging the cocaine for export.
The NDLEA has stated that other members of the international trafficking network, based in the UK, have also been apprehended by international law enforcement agencies. This operation underscores Nigeria’s role as a major transit hub for drug trafficking, with its porous borders and economic instability attracting international criminal organizations.
The seizure of the cocaine and the subsequent arrests mark a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria.
The NDLEA’s Chairman and CEO hailed the bust as a significant step in the fight against drug trafficking. Michael has not yet commented on the allegations, nor has he been charged in court.
The case is currently under investigation, with further developments anticipated in the near future.
