AGADEV and USTM Collaborate on Green Economy Research Infrastructure in Gabon BODY: City, Gabon — The Agence gabonaise pour le développement de l’économie verte (AGADEV) and the Université des Sciences et Techniques de Masuku (USTM) have inked a collaborative agreement for the rehabilitation of two research laboratories. This move is aimed at bolstering Gabon’s green economy and enhancing scientific research capabilities within the country.
The agreement, formalized on July 16, 2026, in Franceville, Gabon, involves the rehabilitation of the Laboratoire de Chimie des Milieux et des Matériaux Inorganiques (LCMMI) and the Laboratoire Multidisciplinaire en Environnement (LME).
The project is a two — phase process, including the restoration of buildings and the acquisition of scientific equipment.
The Director — General of AGADEV, Scyrielle P. Sende Etali, and the Rector of USTM, Professor Raphaël Bikanga, were instrumental in signing this pivotal deal. Gabon, known for its rich natural resources, is seeking to transition to a green economy, leveraging these assets to create sustainable economic opportunities.
Scheduled to be completed before the next academic year, the rehabilitation project will provide students and researchers with the necessary infrastructure to conduct advanced environmental research. This research is expected to contribute to the sustainable management of Gabon’s natural resources and the development of eco-friendly technologies. AGADEV’s role in this project is to convert Gabon’s natural capital into sustainable economic opportunities, aligning with the country’s broader strategy to transition to a green economy.
The project is part of a series of initiatives by AGADEV to support higher education and the development of green economy competencies. This collaboration is expected to have long-term benefits, including the development of new technologies, improved environmental management practices, and the training of skilled professionals in environmental science.
The success of this project could serve as a model for other African countries aiming to develop sustainable economies based on their natural resources.
