Libreville, Gabon — Gabon’s national postal service, Poste S. A. Is addressing a severe infrastructure crisis, following a recent on-site assessment by the Director General, Alfred Ikaka Bobe, and the President of the Board of Directors, Louise Boukandou Moussavou.
The inspection took place at several Poste S. A. Offices in Franceville, the capital of Haut-Ogooué province.
The visit comes after the Minister of Communication and Media, Paul — Marie Gondjout, declared in November 2025 that Poste S. A. Officials commented on the matter.
The financial instability of Poste S. A. Has been a concern for years, with the government announcing a restructuring plan in May 2025 that included an external audit and a voluntary departure plan to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
During the field visit, the directors noted the advanced state of deterioration in the majority of the visited infrastructures, with exceptions made for the Franceville — Centre and Moanda offices.
The strategic Potos office, located in a bustling commercial area, was particularly highlighted for its closure, which has raised concerns. To address the situation, Bobe announced the deployment of an architectural team to evaluate the buildings’conditions and develop a rehabilitation program. Immediate repairs are planned for the Bakoumba office, while a temporary solution is being considered for Mounana to restore internet connectivity.
Boukandou Moussavou expressed her deep concern over the closure of several post offices, emphasizing the importance of Poste S. A. ‘s mission to provide a public service close to citizens, even in remote areas.
She believes that reviving the company aligns with the social policy initiated by the President of the Republic, aiming to restore user confidence and reinstate Poste S. A. ‘s role as a reference public service.
The findings from the mission will be incorporated into an emergency recovery plan, subject to the next Board of Directors’review.
The government’s proactive approach to the crisis is evident, but the success of the restructuring plan hinges on its effective implementation and the ability to tackle the underlying issues affecting Poste S. A.
