Bolossoville, Gabon — In the northern Gabonese district of Minvoul, the underprefecture of Bolossoville stands as a symbol of modernity, with its recently constructed buildings and amenities.
However, this modern facade belies a stark reality: the absence of basic utilities such as water and electricity.
The reporter for the Gabonese Press Agency has confirmed that the underprefecture, located in the Haut — Ntem department, lacks access to clean water and electricity. This situation has led to the underprefect, Édouard Lendenga, and his family being forced to reside in Oyem, the capital of the Woleu-Ntem province, some 40 kilometers away from Bolossoville. Lendenga expressed his difficulties in managing the district, stating, “Rallier le district est un exercice difficile auquel je m’adonne tous les jours.
Je n’ai guère le choix, puisqu’il n’y a ni eau ni électricité à la sous-préfecture. “.
The absence of electricity plunges the underprefecture into darkness at night, while the lack of running water renders the sanitation facilities unusable. Lendenga added, “Je ne saurais vous décrire l’embarras que cette situation engendre, non seulement pour moi, mais aussi pour les usagers de la sous-préfecture. “.
According to Lendenga, the installation of a generator and the digging of a well could alleviate the situation.
