LIBREVILLE, Gabon — On July 25, 2026, President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon met with a delegation from British Petroleum (BP), led by Vice President Ariel Flores, to review strategic offshore oil and gas exploration projects in deep waters.
The meeting, as announced by the presidency, marked a detailed presentation of the progress of explorations conducted within the national territory, in line with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Gabon and BP on October 29, 2025. This initiative is part of the authorities’aim to enhance the attractiveness of the extractive sector and to mobilize top industrial partners. BP’s delegation presented to President Oligui Nguema the findings of in-depth studies conducted in the deep offshore, based on seismic data provided by Gabonese authorities.
These studies have led to the development of advanced geological models designed to map and prioritize areas with high potential for hydrocarbons.
In accordance with President Oligui Nguema’s call for a managed but accelerated exploitation of subsoil resources, BP presented an updated roadmap outlining the next technical steps and coordination modalities with relevant ministries.
The goal is to remove administrative and operational constraints to expedite the exploitation process. Following the meeting, BP representatives expressed gratitude to the President for his welcome and ongoing support. This collaboration underscores the strategic role of the oil and gas sector, a historical driver of Gabon’s economic growth.
