Burkina Faso President Reports Security Gains and 2025 Food Self-Sufficiency. Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso — In a national address delivered on December 31, President Captain Ibrahim Traoré detailed significant progress regarding territorial security and agricultural production achieved during 2025.
According to official statements, the country has reached food self — sufficiency and successfully reclaimed several key regions previously held by armed groups.
Official statements indicate that a strategic military initiative known as Operation Lalmassga, or “Ice Wall, “was instrumental in the recovery of dozens of towns. These operations were specifically concentrated in the Nakambé region, areas surrounding the Kompienga Dam, and the localities of Namungu, Namsiguia, and Toulfé.
The president credited the coordinated efforts of the Burkinabe armed forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) for these territorial gains.
The government stated that military offensives are planned to continue until the state regains full control over all territory up to the national borders.
On the economic front, the government confirmed that Burkina Faso achieved food self — sufficiency during the 2025 calendar year.
According to local reports, this milestone was reached through a combination of targeted agricultural campaigns, the distribution of improved seeds, and increased mechanization of the farming sector.
The state also implemented subsidies to support local producers.
