Maputo, Mozambique — Community feedback in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province has surged significantly, indicating a deepening humanitarian crisis, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). From April to June 2026, there were 4,236 feedback entries received, a 94% increase from the baseline and consistent with the previous quarter’s figures. This surge is reflective of the ongoing displacement crisis and the expansion of Community-based Cash and Vouchers (CCCM) operations.
The majority of feedback, 99%, concerned requests for assistance, services, or repairs. Shelter/NFI (Non-Food Items), Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) were the most common sectors, with FSL overtaking SNFI as the leading sector due to increased livelihood support requests in areas like Mecufi and Chibuto. Feedback was predominantly collected through Mobile Outreach (97%), with women and girls contributing 68% of the submissions, marking a 5% point increase from the baseline.
Shelter, NFIs, farming, and food assistance were the primary requests, with women often providing feedback on behalf of their households. Younger individuals, particularly under 18, focused more on education and protection issues.
In terms of referrals, 50% of the 3,096 completed referrals were successfully resolved, with notable improvements in school support and household latrines.
However, the remaining 50% were unresolved, with the most common reasons being the absence of agencies or services and lack of funding, particularly for shelter and NFI kits.
The situation in Cabo Delgado remains critical, with the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) for 2026 requiring US$348 million to meet the needs of 1. 1 million people, including 919,000 in districts classified as Severity 4.
The humanitarian community is committed to responding, but the financial support is currently insufficient to meet the scale of the crisis.
