Buea, Cameroon — In a significant health campaign, the South West Regional Delegation of Public Health in Cameroon has initiated the 2026 Mother and Child Health Nutrition Action Week. This campaign, launched on July 6, 2026, is a crucial step in providing Vitamin A supplementation and catch-up immunizations to at least 95 per cent of eligible children aged 0 to 59 months across the region.
The South West Region, heavily affected by the ongoing conflict in the Anglophone regions, faces significant challenges, including displacement, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare. This campaign aims to reach approximately 270,000 children, a vital effort in addressing the health needs of children in these conflict-affected areas.
The South West Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr Eko Eko Filbert, emphasized the importance of a door — to-door strategy to maximize coverage, ensuring that no eligible child is left behind.
The campaign also focuses on improving maternal health, aiming to increase access to reproductive health services and support for pregnant women and new mothers. Health workers and community support are central to the campaign’s success.
As the campaign progresses, the South West Regional Delegation of Public Health and its partners will continue to monitor the situation and adapt their strategies as needed.
The initiative represents a comprehensive approach to addressing the complex health challenges faced by the region’s population.
