Cameroon: LECUDO-USA Medical Outreach Conducts 40 Surgeries in Annual Campaign. FONTEM, PAV — The LECUDO-USA medical outreach program, held in collaboration with Mary Health of Africa Hospital and various partners, concluded its three-day campaign with the successful completion of 40 life-saving surgeries.
The initiative, which took place from March 11 to March 13, also saw over 1,500 patients receive medical consultations and services ranging from eye care and dental services to mental health support and general medicine.
Ben Fuaminka, CEO of LECUDO — USA, expressed satisfaction with the campaign’s impact, noting the increase in surgical procedures from the previous year and the inclusion of mental health services. “We recorded about 40 surgical procedures, which is an increase compared to last year.
We also included mental health services, which are very important given the impact of the crisis on our communities,” he.
A volunteer who participated in the campaign praised LECUDO — USA’s commitment to improving healthcare access.
The volunteer highlighted the importance of the annual medical campaign in uplifting the community and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the initiative. Despite logistical challenges, the organization ensured that all departments were operational.
Ben Fuaminka revealed that acquiring and transporting equipment for certain services came at a high cost, but it was crucial for providing proper treatment to patients.
The annual LECUDO — USA medical outreach, now in its fifth year, has become a vital healthcare resource for the inhabitants of Fontem and surrounding areas, which face significant challenges in accessing specialized medical services in urban centers. Further details are expected regarding future initiatives and ongoing healthcare improvements in the region.
