KINSHASA, DRC — On July 15, 2026, President Denis Sassou-N’Guesso of the Republic of Congo officially launched the new 30 kV electrical line, connecting the towns of Kinkala, Louingui, Boko, and Loumo in the Pool department.
The event marked a significant stride in enhancing electricity access in the country’s southern region.
The new line, approximately 60 km in length, is a part of the government’s initiative to improve rural electrification and connect remote areas to the national grid. This project was constructed by the Energie électrique du Congo and linked to the existing high-voltage transmission line serving the city of Mindouli. During the launch, Sassou-N’Guesso also visited other sites, including the Boko water supply station and the electricity dispatching station in Loumo.
The new electrical infrastructure includes a thermal power plant in Louingui, equipped with two 500 Kva generators, and an additional 70 public streetlights.
The president’s commitment to infrastructure development is evident in this project, which aims to improve the quality of life for the local populations by providing them with reliable electricity and water supply.
The new line is expected to power three water wells in Boko, serving the community’s potable water needs. While the project is celebrated as a milestone in the country’s development, Sassou-N’Guesso’s re-election bid for the upcoming March 2026 presidential election remains a topic of debate. His supporters argue that his re-election will ensure the continuation of his development agenda, exemplified by the new power line.
Critics, however, express concerns about the potential for political instability and call for a change in leadership after Sassou — N’Guesso’s long tenure.
The upcoming election is anticipated to be closely watched, both domestically and internationally, as it could shape the future of the Republic of Congo.
The new electrical line in the Pool department stands as a testament to Sassou — N’Guesso’s infrastructure development efforts but also raises questions about the potential for political tensions as the country prepares for the pivotal election.
