Rabat, Morocco — The opening ceremony of GITEX Africa 2026, held in Marrakech from April 7-9, witnessed US Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan III emphasizing international backing for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan. He highlighted support from both the European Union and the United Nations.
The ambassador reflected on his personal involvement in the Western Sahara process, dedicating hundreds of hours to meetings and consultations with key parties. He underscored the US’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s plan as the only credible solution for lasting peace and prosperity, with over 100 countries in agreement.
Buchan III commended Morocco’s economic stability and certainty, crucial for attracting investors, and described Morocco as a nation focused on “building “and “investing.”He also mentioned the US government’s support for King Mohammed VI’s vision and highlighted the country’s growing investments.
The ambassador celebrated the 250-year-old bond between the US and Morocco, noting Morocco’s role as a digital gateway to Africa and the presence of US companies planning to establish roots in the region.
