JOHANNESBURG, South Africa — The Border Management Authority (BMA) in South Africa and its neighboring countries are intensifying security measures in anticipation of the Easter weekend’s surge in cross-border travel.
The BMA is deploying additional personnel and resources to manage the increased flow of visitors, focusing on thorough checks and screenings at entry points. These measures include meticulous inspections of vehicles and luggage, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
A spokesperson for the BMA emphasized the proactive approach to ensure travelers can enjoy their Easter celebrations safely. “We are prepared to handle the increased volume of traffic and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of security, “the spokesperson.
The Easter weekend traditionally sees a significant increase in cross — border travel as families and friends reunite across the continent. The BMA’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to facilitate safe and efficient movement in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives.
