Ethiopian Airlines to Expand Domestic Network with Three New Airports. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest network operating carrier, has announced plans to inaugurate three new domestic airports and launch passenger flights to these destinations by mid-April 2026.
The airports are set to be located in Negele Borena, Gore Metu, and Debre Markos, expanding Ethiopian Airlines’ domestic network to 26 destinations.
According to official statements, Ethiopian Airlines plans to operate thrice weekly passenger flights to each of the new destinations. This expansion aims to boost air connectivity throughout Ethiopia, a move that the Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, describes as a significant milestone for both the airline and the nation.
Mr. Tasew emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing connectivity within Ethiopia and its role in driving economic growth and regional development. Ethiopian Airlines has a history of transforming visionary dreams into a globally renowned reality.
It operates flights to over 160 domestic and international destinations across five continents, connecting Africa with the world.
The airline, a member of the Star Alliance, has won numerous awards, including Skytrax’s ‘Best Airline in Africa Award’ for eight consecutive years.
As Ethiopian Airlines integrates the three new destinations into its network, the focus remains on modernizing the domestic travel experience.
This includes infrastructure renovation and enhancement, as well as the utilization of ultra — modern aircraft such as Boeing 737s, 777s, 787s, Airbus A350-900, A350-1000, and De Havilland Q400. Ethiopian Airlines aims to further excel in its success through its strategic plan, ‘Vision 2035,’ with the goal of becoming one of the top 20 most competitive and leading aviation groups in the world.
The airline also embraces a Pan — African spirit, pursuing a multi-hub strategy through hubs in various African countries.
