Casablanca, Morocco — Morocco is accelerating its hospitality sector growth with Hilton’s commitment to open 15 new hotels across the country by 2030. This expansion, part of a strategic tourism drive, aligns with the nation’s preparation for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
In Rabat, Morocco’s Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor met with Hilton President and CEO Christopher J. Nassetta to discuss the expansion and the development of Hilton’s Moroccan hotel portfolio. The meeting was attended by SMIT CEO Imad Barrakad and Simon Vincent CBE, Hilton’s president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, reflecting the collaborative approach to increasing hotel capacity.
Ammor emphasized the sector’s transition to a “real and lasting “growth phase, aiming for 20 million tourists by 2026 and 26 million by the end of the decade. Hilton’s new hotels, including Tapestry Collection and Curio Collection brands, will be located in key cities such as Casablanca, Marrakech, and Nador, creating over 2,000 direct jobs and enhancing Morocco’s global booking networks.
The Hilton expansion is a component of Morocco’s comprehensive World Cup readiness program. The nation is upgrading airport capacities nationwide, with a €270 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for key airports, aiming to increase passenger capacity to 80 million by 2030. Stadium renovations, transport projects, and the modernization of 25,000 hotel rooms by 2026 are also part of this strategy.
Morocco’s focus on hospitality and infrastructure upgrades is a bid to transform the World Cup into a long-term tourism boost. As the nation prepares additional rooms, larger airports, and upgraded facilities, the goal is to establish a sustainable legacy from the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
