DRC President Félix Tshisekedi has directed the immediate reform of the General Inspectorate of Labor (IGT) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to reports from the Agence congolaise de presse.
The reform aims to strengthen the IGT’s administrative and financial autonomy, ensuring a more effective regulatory environment for labor standards.
During the 94th Council of Ministers held in Kinshasa on July 12, 2026, President Tshisekedi emphasized the need for the reform, noting the importance of ensuring proper remuneration for labor inspectors and controllers, as well as the regularization of their benefits.
The reform is part of a broader initiative to modernize and digitize the IGT, including the promotion of excellence, the dematerialization of procedures, and the establishment of digital tools and a national database for inspections.
Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya, highlighted the government’s commitment to improving labor governance, emphasizing the need for the reform to be implemented without delay.
The order to reform the IGT is seen as a significant step towards enhancing workers’rights and labor governance in the DRC, with the potential to improve compliance with international labor standards and reduce corruption.
