Gabon Revisits Development Aid Strategy Amid Inefficiencies. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 15 February 2026 (AGP) – The Gabonese government is reevaluating its development aid strategy, amid concerns over the effectiveness of resource utilization from external funding and debt.
The Vice — president of the government, Hermann Immongault, led a meeting on February 13, focusing on the efficiency of technical and financial partners’actions, according to a statement from the Vice-presidency.
During the discussions, it was noted that unclear prioritization has led to weaknesses in project management, including ineligible expenses, high costs, and mixed results. Officials commented on the matter.
Participants also highlighted several shortcomings, including imperfect institutional coordination, limited technical and financial capabilities among some project management actors, and a low disbursement rate.
In response, the government plans to initiate a new dynamic of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, with more effective, better coordinated, and closely aligned mechanisms with the National Growth and Development Plan (PNCD).
The aim is to implement actions with a strong social impact for the population.
Additionally, the Vice — president emphasized the need to establish a comprehensive map of ongoing projects and centralize data on donations received by various administrations to enhance transparency and traceability in resource use.
The government’s move comes as it seeks to improve the management of international aid, which is crucial for the country’s development efforts. Further details are expected as the government continues to refine its approach to development aid.
