Gabon: Solange Marthe Guiakié Appointed as Constitutional Judge. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 27 December 2025 (AGP) – Solange Marthe Guiakié has been appointed as a constitutional judge by presidential decree from Gabon’s President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The appointment, effective as of Saturday, was in accordance with Article 123 of the Gabonese Constitution.
Guiakié’s new role marks her transition from the presidency of the Economic, Social, Environmental, and Cultural Council (CESEC) to the country’s highest constitutional jurisdiction. Prior to her recent appointment, Guiakié had a distinguished career in the Gabonese government.
In 2023, she joined the government as the Minister of Labor and Combating Unemployment.
The following year, she was appointed as Special Advisor to the President, responsible for missions and the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.
On May 2, 2025, she was named head of the CESEC, a position she held until her integration into the Constitutional Court. Born on May 18, 1960, in Makokou, in the Ogooué-Ivindo province, Guiakié boasts a robust academic and professional background.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in 1978, a master’s degree in law from the University of Omar Bongo in 1982, and a higher diploma in customs from the National School of Customs in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, in 1983.
Her career began in 1984 with the Customs Administration, where she held various positions, including Inspector of Visits, Investigative Inspector, and Head of Documentation at the Directorate of Customs Fraud Repression and Litigation. From 1999 to 2005, she led the same structure and later occupied several strategic posts, including Head of Human Resources, Professional Training, and General Administration of Customs.
Between 2017 and 2021, she served as Deputy Director-General of Customs and Indirect Taxes, further solidifying her role in the modernization of the administration.
As a key figure in the reforms within the sector, she also co — chaired the steering committee for the customs reform and served as the focal point for the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Gabon. She coordinated several human resources modernization programs and was decorated with the Customs Merit Medal and the World Customs Organization Merit Certificate.
Guiakié’s appointment to the Constitutional Court brings her extensive administrative, legal, and institutional experience to the highest judicial body in the country.
