Gabon: Dignitary Emmanuel Ondo Methogo Dies at 88 LIBREVILLE, Gabon — Gabon has been marked by the passing of Emmanuel Ondo Methogo, a distinguished public figure, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The information was confirmed by the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP) through family sources. Methogo, a financier by training, left an indelible mark on Gabon’s political and administrative landscape.
He initially held the position of Inspector of Finances before ascending to the heights of government.
During his tenure, Methogo directed several ministerial departments, including serving as Minister of State for Agriculture and later as Vice — Prime Minister.
A steadfast ally of former President Omar Bongo, Methogo was a loyal member of the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) and represented the Ntem department as a parliamentarian for many years.
His commitment to the PDG continued even after the power shift on August 30, 2023, during which he joined former colleagues in supporting the new President, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who was elected on April 12, 2025.
The late Methogo’s passing has been mourned by many in the country, who remember him for his years of service and his significant contributions to the nation’s development.
According to a family source, Methogo had been announced as ill last week and succumbed to his illness today.
