LIBREVILLE, Gabon — President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon met with the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF), Wamkele Mene, to review ongoing projects and discuss Gabon’s economic development strategy.
The meeting highlighted the progress of the ZLECAF implementation and the joint action plan between the continental institution and the Gabonese government.
The discussion focused on modernizing customs systems and border infrastructure, enhancing institutional capacities, and increasing private sector involvement in trade.
The Secretary — General emphasized Gabon’s economic potential, particularly through the production capabilities of the Nkok Special Economic Zone and its strategic geographical position, which is a significant advantage for integration into continental value chains. President Oligui Nguema reaffirmed Gabon’s economic development vision, which is based on the transformation of local raw materials, economic diversification, and digital strengthening, in line with the National Growth and Development Plan (PNCD). Gabon signed and ratified the ZLECAF agreement in 2019, gaining access to a continental market of over 1.

The agreement aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote fair and integrated trade across Africa.
