Africa Newsroom — OYEM, Gabon, March 31, 2026 (AGP) – The Prosecutor of the Republic at the Oyem First Instance Court, Raphaël Mangouka, provided an update on a gasoline theft case involving the Société d’énergie et d’eau du Gabon (SEEG) in the Woleu-Ntem province (north) on Tuesday, according to the Gabonese Press Agency. In a press statement, Mangouka mentioned that the investigation by the public prosecutor’s office followed two complaints filed by the regional director of the SEEG in Oyem and the SEEG’s general director, received on March 27, 2026. “Upon reviewing the case file, the prosecutor’s office has retained the crimes of aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods against seven individuals, who have been immediately transferred to the central prison, “said Mangouka, adding that a total of twelve people have been arrested in connection with the case.
He also noted that the investigation is ongoing simultaneously at the instruction office and at the provincial office of the DGR and the B2. The Prosecutor of the Republic further indicated that the case has uncovered a large-scale smuggling network, fueled by the guard of the SEEG central plant in Oyem, involving many taxi drivers in the city. “The damage caused to SEEG is estimated at several thousand cubic meters of gasoline, “he clarified.
The case has highlighted the extent of gasoline theft and smuggling operations in the region, with authorities emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement and vigilance.
