Addis Ababa — Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, engaged in discussions with Nikolay Spassky, Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Corporation, today, marking a significant advancement in the nuclear energy sector. The meeting underscored the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Russia, built on their historical ties, and the recent nuclear cooperation agreement inked in September 2025.
A Strategic Roadmap for Nuclear Energy Development was officially signed on March 31, 2026. This roadmap, a pivotal milestone, delineates the practical steps for collaboration between Ethiopia and Russia in developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Sandokan Debebe, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Nuclear Energy Commission, highlighted the importance of translating commitments into tangible projects, emphasizing the need for concrete implementation strategies.
