In February 2026, Gabon’s Minister of Communication and Media, Germain Biahodjow, emphasized the importance of responsibly managing digital landscapes to protect national interests, exemplified by the suspension of social media access across the country.
The seminar on July 27, themed “Quelles infrastructures pour une digitalisation inclusive et robuste du pays? “, brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of space communications and its impact on Gabon’s digital sovereignty. Participants, including Bertrand Mahoukou Bitchinda of SPIN, Dr.
Aboubakar Mambimba Ndjoungui of Ageos, and Jean — Marcel Manfoumbi of Aninf, advocated for a hybrid fiber-optic-satellite network.
The adopted recommendations include creating a national reflection committee, establishing an autonomous space system with satellites and domestic infrastructure, and strengthening technical capabilities through training.
A regional marketing strategy was also proposed to facilitate the integration of neighboring countries into the satellite network.
