Minna, Nigeria — Gunmen on motorcycles struck three villages in Niger State early Saturday, leaving at least 32 people dead and an unknown number abducted, according to local police and residents. Official statements indicate that the first raid began around 6 a. M.
In Tunga — Makeri, Borgu area. Niger State police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said six people were shot, several houses burned, and an unspecified number taken away.
The same group then moved to Konkoso, where resident Abdullahi Adamu told independent observers that 26 bodies have been counted so far.
A police outpost in Konkoso was set on fire, and witnesses report jets flying overhead after the attackers withdrew toward the nearby border with Benin.
The third village, Pissa, lost one person, according to local sources. No security-force fatalities have been reported, and no arrests have been announced.
The attacks come ten days after coordinated raids in neighbouring Kwara and Katsina states killed nearly 200 people. Regional officials confirmed that the Borgu countryside, bordered by the Kainji forest reserve, has become a corridor for motorcycle-riding bandits who move quickly between Nigeria and Benin. Community leaders last week petitioned President Bola Tinubu to install a permanent army post in the area.
The government has not responded publicly, but official statements indicate joint security teams are now conducting ground and air patrols across the three affected villages. Further details are expected once search operations and victim identification are complete.
