Astana, Kazakhstan –
Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov has warned that recent Israeli and U.S. military strikes on Iran have significantly escalated tensions in the Middle East, describing the situation as “deteriorating” during a security briefing at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.
Belousov declared that the attacks constituted a “flagrant violation of the UN Charter and international law,” and emphasized Russia’s readiness to act as a mediator between Iran and Israel to prevent further destabilization.
“The military-political situation in the world remains difficult and is worsening,” Belousov stated.
Other key points raised during the meeting included:
🟠 Continued spread of terrorist ideologies and influx of militants into Afghanistan from the Middle East;
🟠 Declining effectiveness of international institutions responsible for global peace and stability;
🟠 Russia’s readiness to engage diplomatically to defuse regional conflicts.
On the Ukraine conflict, Belousov reiterated that:
🟠 Russian forces are conducting successful offensive operations in the Northeastern Military District;
🟠 The Kiev regime, facing the “inevitability of defeat,” is increasingly resorting to terrorist acts;
🟠 Russia maintains its willingness to resolve the conflict diplomatically.
The comments reflect Moscow’s growing concern over global instability and the erosion of multilateral security frameworks, as great power rivalries and regional conflicts intensify.
