KASUNGU, Malawi — Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah recently visited Zikomo Farm in Kasungu District, showcasing her commitment to community empowerment and defending her political loyalty to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). During the visit, Ansah highlighted the farm’s growing agricultural success and its contribution to the local economy, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and self-reliance.
The Vice President’s visit came amidst a backdrop of criticism, with Ansah addressing her political journey and dismissing claims that she intends to form her own political party. She emphasized her willingness to join the DPP, a party she described as the closest to her heart, and her intention to continue her work within the party. Ansah also spoke about her experience as a judge, noting its significance in her leadership journey.
She criticized younger critics for spreading falsehoods and praised the hospitality of the Kasungu community, commending local agricultural initiatives observed during the visit. Zikomo Farm, known for producing organic bananas, pawpaws, and sweet potatoes, has experienced rapid growth, in part due to irrigation supported by a borehole donated by missionaries.
The farm has expanded from 200 banana plants to over 2,000, with plans to construct a dam to further boost production.
As part of the outreach program, the Dr. Jane Ansah Foundation distributed food items, bicycles, soap, and other essentials to vulnerable families, reflecting the foundation’s mission of promoting self-reliance and dignity among disadvantaged groups. Chief Lukwa welcomed Ansah at Chidzenje Primary School, presenting her with a symbol of appreciation from the community.
He also highlighted the poor road network, which hindered the Vice President’s tour of the farm factory. Former legislator and opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member Jailos Bonongwe addressed the gathering, urging Ansah to remain focused on serving the nation despite criticism. He praised former President Peter Mutharika for appointing her to the position and commended Chief Lukwa for promoting development and unity in the area.
Ansah encouraged communities to reject discrimination and support inclusive development efforts, particularly for girls and people living with albinism. She stressed the importance of resilience and self-belief, reminding attendees that difficult circumstances should never define one’s future. Vice President Dr.
