TCHIBANGA, Gabon — A team from the Direction nationale du recensement, under the Ministry of Planning and Prospective, is currently engaged in a mission in Tchibanga, the capital of Nyanga province in southwestern Gabon.
The team, led by Jean — Jacques Ondo Megné, is conducting an inventory of equipment used during the recent General Population and Housing Census (RGPL) in Nyanga province and the department of Ndougou (Gamba). Upon arrival, the delegation presented their mission to the province’s governor, Jean Robert Mabobet, explaining the purpose of their visit. This inventory mission is aimed at assessing the availability and condition of the equipment to ensure its readiness for future operations.
The team, which includes representatives from various administrative units within the ministry, is also tasked with verifying that all populations, particularly indigenous groups, have been counted and included in the official figures to be released in the coming days.
The census is a critical component of the government’s efforts to update demographic data, essential for planning social and economic policies and for international reporting on Gabon’s population. This initiative is crucial for the effective implementation of various government programs and for providing reliable information to international partners and investors.
The Gabonese Press Agency (AGP) has reported on the mission, highlighting the government’s commitment to accurate demographic data and its importance in shaping the country’s future.
The census team’s visit to Tchibanga is part of a broader national effort to update demographic data across the country, which will assist in infrastructure development, health services, education, and other sectors vital to Gabon’s development.
