Gabon Finalizes Digital Education Framework at National Workshop BODY: LIBREVILLE, Gabon – A national workshop focused on the digitalization of education in Gabon concluded on July 24, 2026, in Libreville.
The event, presided over by Joachim Ondjila Ongnelet, who represented Minister of National Education and Instruction Civique, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, marked a significant step towards integrating technology into the country’s educational system.
The workshop validated five preliminary drafts of regulatory texts aimed at guiding the digitalization process. Ongnelet emphasized the importance of ensuring that digital tools do not become a new form of exclusion but rather facilitate access to education for all Gabonese children. He highlighted the need for teacher training, infrastructure development, and a reduction in the digital divide as crucial factors for the success of the reform.
The regulatory framework developed includes guidelines for implementing digital tools in classrooms, emphasizing the role of technology in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes. It also addresses data privacy and cybersecurity concerns, ensuring the secure and rights-respecting implementation of digital education.
The validated texts include a decree on the implementation of digitalized learning, a decree on managing and controlling mixed learning platforms, an arrest on the evaluation of digitalized education, an arrest on the attribution and functioning of the Digital Education Steering Committee, and a decree on the delivery of the Basic Computer and Internet Certificate for Education (CAIBIE).
The workshop’s rapporteur, Marian Lewangha, noted that the event laid the groundwork for a regulatory framework essential for the effective implementation of the educational reform.
The framework is expected to harmonize legal, technical, and pedagogical aspects of various projects and provide recommendations for adoption by relevant authorities.
As Gabon progresses with its digital education initiative, the outcomes of the regulatory framework workshop are closely watched for their potential impact on the nation’s educational landscape and development trajectory.
