Kigali, Rwanda — A Rwandan interpreter at France’s Office of Refugee Protection is at the center of an investigation after it emerged that he had previously worked for the Rwandan intelligence service. Jonathan Scott, who registered to represent the Rwanda National Police, has been cited as evidence of his connection, despite the Rwandan National Police’s denial of any contract or knowledge of Scott. The filing remains active on the FARA website.
This revelation follows the recent visit of French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez to Algeria, where France announced the reappointment of a judicial police officer to its embassy. The decision comes amid reports that fighters from the paramilitary firm Asociatia RALF, whose boss, French-Romanian former legionnaire Horațiu Potra, was arrested late last year, have sought new opportunities by joining the Russian armed forces.
