NAIROBI, Kenya — A rumour circulating in Kenya suggests that President William Ruto has expelled his aide, Farouk Kibet. The claim is based on a document that surfaced on social media, purporting to be a memo from Ruto’s office and dated March 2, 2026. The memo allegedly announces Kibet’s expulsion from the presidency. However, Africa Check, a non-partisan organization focused on media accuracy, has analyzed the document and identified inconsistencies that raise doubts about its authenticity.
In their analysis, Africa Check noted discrepancies in the memo’s font, formatting, and the depiction of the Kenya seal, which did not align with genuine documents from the executive office. Moreover, no credible local media outlets have reported on the expulsion, and Kibet was seen in public with Ruto as recently as March 30, 2026, suggesting his continued involvement in the administration.
The lack of substantiating evidence leaves the rumour unverified, and the situation remains under observation for any further developments.
