Kenya’s Top Police Chiefs Absent in Court Over Security Analyst’s Disappearance. Nairobi, Kenya — December 18, 2025 Kenya’s Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, and Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Mohamed Amin were absent from court proceedings on December 16, despite being summoned to appear in relation to the mysterious disappearance of security expert Mwenda Mbijiwe.
The absence of the two senior police officers was noted by High Court Judge Martin Muya, who expressed concerns over the delays and procedural hurdles in the case.
Mbijiwe, a well — known security analyst and former officer in the Kenya Defence Forces, has been missing since his alleged abduction four years ago.
The case has garnered significant public attention, with Mbijiwe’s mother calling for warrants of arrest against the two police chiefs for allegedly disobeying court orders. During the court hearing, the advocate representing the police chiefs, Paul Nyamodi, argued that the summons had not been properly served on his clients.
He requested that the court allow an investigating officer to address the matter, stating that the officer was better placed to explain the current status of the investigation.
However, the judge emphasized the importance of honesty, transparency, and cooperation from all parties involved.
The court directed all parties to file and serve the necessary documents and set January 23, 2026, for further directions in the ongoing search for answers.
