TRIPOLI, Libya — In a significant move towards universal health coverage and child well-being, Libya’s Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF, has introduced a unified approach to health care with the launch of two national initiatives. These are the National Community Health Program and the National Strategy for School Health and Nutrition (2026–2030), designed to enhance accessibility and promote health across all Libyan households and educational institutions.
The National Community Health Program, led by the Ministry of Health and supported by UNICEF, aims to deliver essential health services directly to Libyan families. Health Visitors will offer household registration, maternal and child health support, nutrition screening, immunization promotion, hygiene education, and doorstep delivery of health kits, with a particular emphasis on women, children, and vulnerable populations in rural and underserved regions.
The National Strategy for School Health and Nutrition (2026–2030), a joint effort between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education with technical backing from UNICEF, seeks to transform every school into a health-promoting environment.
The strategy is underpinned by three key pillars: reinforcing institutional commitment, broadening multi-sectoral partnerships, and establishing a supportive legal framework with sustainable financing. These initiatives collectively represent an integrated pathway of care that spans from the household to the classroom, ensuring that no Libyan family is left without access to health services and that each school contributes to the overall well-being of its students.
