Mangochi, Malawi – Malawi’s 2025 Cabinet Retreat kicked off in Mangochi with a call for unity, bold decision-making, and people-centered leadership from Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah. The retreat aims to drive long-term national transformation and development through inclusive governance. Dr. Ansah’s message emphasized the need for collective action and strategic collaboration to achieve the country’s development goals.
The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has welcomed the new Cabinet appointed by President Arthur Peter Mutharika, viewing it as an opportunity to promote inclusive and vision-driven leadership. However, NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe noted gaps in inclusivity, citing limited representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in the new Cabinet. According to Kondowe, a more inclusive leadership structure is essential for effectively addressing the diverse needs of Malawi’s population. Reports indicate that the current representation of women in Malawi’s Cabinet is below the regional average, highlighting the need for improvement in this area.
Prior to the retreat, Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah hosted a networking dinner to foster collaboration and strategic dialogue between government officials, development partners, and key stakeholders. She stressed the importance of strong partnerships in advancing Malawi’s national development agenda and acknowledged the continuous support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in supporting Malawi’s transformational agenda. The UNDP has been instrumental in providing technical assistance and capacity-building programs to the Malawian government, enhancing its ability to implement development projects effectively.
The 2025 Cabinet Retreat provides a critical platform for Malawi’s leaders to chart a new course for the country’s development. With a focus on inclusive governance and people-centered leadership, the retreat is expected to yield bold decisions and strategic plans that address the country’s pressing challenges. As Malawi moves forward, the success of its development agenda will depend on the ability of its leaders to work together and engage with diverse stakeholders.
The retreat’s outcomes are expected to have a significant impact on Malawi’s development trajectory. By prioritizing inclusive governance and people-centered leadership, the government can create a more equitable and prosperous society for all Malawians. As the country looks to the future, the international community will be watching closely to see how Malawi’s leaders address the challenges ahead.
