Malawi’s VP Dr Jane Ansah Urges Regional Solidarity at SADC Summit on Madagascar Crisis. Lilongwe, Malawi — Vice President Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah, SC, JA (Retired), emphasized the need for regional solidarity and swift action in addressing the ongoing political and security crisis in Madagascar during the virtual Extraordinary SADC Organ Troika Summit on 15th December 2025.
In her opening remarks, Dr Ansah welcomed the representatives of His Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini and Her Excellency Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, emphasizing the critical importance of regional solidarity in resolving political instability.
She also acknowledged Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr George T. Chaponda, and other participants for their dedication and participation in efforts to resolve the crisis.
Dr Ansah highlighted the deployment of the Joint Technical Fact — Finding Mission to Madagascar from 22nd to 27th October 2025, which engaged a wide range of stakeholders to investigate the causes of protests that resulted in loss of life and property damage.
She commended the mission team for their professionalism and diligence.
The summit, Vice President Ansah stressed the urgent need to implement the recommendations from the mission, urging all stakeholders to adhere strictly to timelines. She emphasized Malawi’s leadership role as Chair of the Organ and called on regional and international partners to provide full support and guidance.
The summit’s decisions are crucial for resolving the immediate crisis in Madagascar and reinforcing the region’s image of unity and commitment to the people of Madagascar. Dr Ansah thanked all participants for their engagement and contributions, emphasizing the need for continuous collaboration and dialogue to restore peace, law, and order in Madagascar.
