Libreville, Gabon — August 12, 2026 – Gabon’s Minister of Housing, Mays Mouissi, has conducted a site visit to the Bikélé area to assess the progress of a significant housing development project.
The project, encompassing the construction of 1,600 units, is part of an initiative to address the country’s housing deficit and enhance living conditions for its citizens. During the visit, Mouissi met with key stakeholders involved in the project, including the Société Nationale Immobilière (SNI), the Caisse des dépôts et consignations (CDC), BGFI Immo, as well as construction firms Urban Life, SOBEC, and AGES. Essential service providers, such as SEEG and Gabon Telecom, also participated in the discussions.
Mouissi’s inspection aimed to evaluate the level of work completion and identify potential obstacles that could delay the project’s execution.
The visit underscores the government’s commitment to operational oversight and improved coordination among all parties. Launched by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the construction of 1,600 units in Bikélé aligns with the government’s broader plan to build a total of 3,100 units across the nation.
The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the housing crisis in Gabon.
The Bikélé-Nzong project is expected to have a substantial impact on the local community, providing much-needed housing and contributing to the overall development of the area.
The government’s dedication to this project is further evidenced by recent land regularization efforts in Owendo, which seek to provide legal ownership to thousands of families and is anticipated to affect over 30,000 individuals.
As the government continues to implement housing and urbanization projects, the future of housing in Gabon appears to be taking a positive turn.
The Bikélé-Nzong project, alongside other initiatives, is expected to significantly contribute to the country’s infrastructure and living conditions.
