RABAT, MOROCCO — Despite Senegal’s appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Morocco has maintained its Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory, awarded a 3-0 win after Senegal players walked off the pitch during the final. Morocco’s Atlas Lions, who had previously won the AFCON only in 1976, are now turning their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Morocco’s new coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, has steered the team to focus on the future, emphasizing that they are looking forward, not backward. Moroccan fans, many of whom traveled from abroad, are unwavering in their support, with many expressing confidence that justice was served.
The Moroccan media and fans are more interested in the upcoming World Cup, with high expectations for the team’s performance. Morocco has gone unbeaten in 25 matches, including the controversial AFCON final in Rabat. The Moroccan Federation’s legal team may face further scrutiny, but Ouahbi and his players are looking forward to the summer tournament, where they hope to add another trophy to their collection. Their first match against Brazil is set for June 13, marking a significant encounter in the group phase.
