Morocco Steps Up Nationwide Response to Extreme Winter Weather. Rabat, Morocco — Morocco has initiated a comprehensive emergency response plan to combat the extreme winter weather that has swept across the nation.
The severe conditions, which include freezing temperatures, heavy rain, snow, and flash floods, have impacted over 28 provinces.
According to local reports, authorities have distributed emergency aid to those affected, aiming to support tens of thousands of families with essential supplies.
The operation, which is expected to reach approximately 73,000 households in need, includes the distribution of food supplies, blankets, and other relief items. Red alerts have been issued for heavy snowfall, with up to 80 centimeters predicted in the High Atlas mountains, while much of central and northern Morocco faces orange alerts for intense rainfall.
The harsh weather has already caused significant damage.
In the coastal city of Safi, flash floods over the weekend killed at least 37 people, destroyed dozens of homes, and swept away vehicles.
The government is mobilizing resources to ensure access to remote and high — altitude areas while maintaining critical services.
Road clearance teams, monitoring centers, and provincial vigilance committees are working diligently to keep routes open and respond quickly to emergencies. Officials are also cautioning residents about ongoing cold and snowy conditions, especially when traveling.
The relief efforts are part of Morocco’s broader strategy to protect vulnerable communities and mitigate the impacts of the unusually severe winter weather.
Further details are expected as the situation develops.
