Casablanca, Morocco — On the sidelines of GITEX Africa Morocco 2026, Morocco’s digital transformation took a significant leap forward with the unveiling of the Nexus AI Factory project. This groundbreaking initiative, a partnership between Nexus Core Systems and international entities, is poised to establish a state-of-the-art AI data center in Casablanca’s outskirts, a $1.2 billion investment that underscores Morocco’s expanding technological ambitions.
The Nexus AI Factory project, aiming to elevate Morocco’s standing in advanced digital infrastructure, is designed with a target capacity of 500 megawatts and will be powered entirely by renewable energy, thanks to TAQA Morocco’s clean power supply. This project represents a significant stride in Morocco’s growing influence in technology, as Nexus Core Systems and several Moroccan government bodies, including the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to launch the first phases of the “Nexus AI Factory Platform.”The platform is a sovereign, integrated infrastructure designed to propel Morocco into its next phase of digital growth, featuring a high-performance computing (HPC) data center, a Center of Excellence for skills transfer, and an Innovation Hub focused on AI solutions. The agreement was witnessed by key figures, including Minister Delegate Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni and US Ambassador Duke Buchan III, who deemed the agreement a historic moment for Morocco’s AI development.
The Nexus Core Systems CEO, Jaap Zuiderveld, and Chairman Christopher Yoshida were present at the event. The project, which will be backed by an initial investment of MAD 12 billion, is set to be deployed in two phases by 2027. The first phase in Nouaceur will allocate MAD 5 billion to establish a 16 MW capacity, creating 50 direct jobs. The second phase will add 20 MW, reaching a total of 36 MW with an additional MAD 7 billion investment, ultimately generating 125 direct jobs.
Minister El Fallah Seghrouchni emphasized the structural impact of the Nexus AI Factory on Morocco’s digital infrastructure and AI capabilities. Nexus Core Systems views Morocco as a strategic location for global operations, with CEO Zuiderveld highlighting the country’s competitive advantages, including political stability, leadership, and a growing tech talent pool. This project is part of a broader national strategy to foster a competitive digital economy and drive innovation-led growth, aligning with Morocco’s ambition to emerge as a key technological and industrial hub in Africa.
