Nigerian Authorities Charge Driver Following Fatal Highway Collision Involving Anthony Joshua. Abeokuta, Nigeria — A 46-year-old driver has been formally charged with reckless and dangerous driving following a fatal motor vehicle accident in southwestern Nigeria.
The incident, which occurred on a prominent highway earlier this week, involved a vehicle transporting British boxer Anthony Joshua and three other individuals.
According to regional officials, the crash resulted in the deaths of two passengers, while Joshua and the driver survived the impact with minor injuries.
The collision took place on the busy transit route connecting the cities of Lagos and Ibadan within Ogun State. Official statements indicate that the vehicle, a Lexus SUV, struck a truck that was stationary on the road.
Investigations conducted by the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency in Ogun State suggest that mechanical failure and speed contributed to the event.
Regional officials confirmed to reports that preliminary findings show the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed when a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control before striking the parked truck.
The driver, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was taken into custody on Thursday after being discharged from a local hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.
